Chasing Waterfalls.

I feel like I am on the edge of something.
Something that combines all the things my heart loves.
I have lots to learn & seek the Lord on.
I don't know what it is going to look like
but I must get in the water and see where
it takes me.....

Coffee talk

Backlit. The sun is quite bright.
I am here at the old coffee shop in Arlington. I don't think I have been here on a Sunday morning. It is quite different. There is a perfect combination of heathens and church goers. The lady standing in line next to my table just picked her wedgie..over her coat. It was all a bit awkward. She is wearing a knee-length black coat, blue sweat pants (they have a sticker on them. The symbol looks like the Ferragamo symbol..or, if you are in college, it is kinda like the symbol for Omega). She is also wearing brown loafers, no socks and her hair is slightly unbelievably out of place A MESS. I am guessing she had a semi-late night and will not be at the first service of church.  I have seen 2 bellies already. Did I mention that it is 26 degrees...

I miss this place. Half of the barista's are new. I said hi to R. when I got here. Glad he is here. I have seen one of those fuzzy head halo headband things that I am not a fan of can't stand:

*Note: if a supermodel looks bad in it.....then it is probably not the best choice.

I see one home-made grey cropped short sleeve sweater thing with a hood. I don't understand it either. Oh! I just saw furry headband thing #2 in black.

I am going to order the quiche. Ham & cheese. That is what R. says to get. I miss this place. It no longer feels like home but it feels more like a fun little vacation spot.

Like a G6

..and it is all working out according to the Master's plan. Hard days are still to come but I will embrace them in order to get where I am suppose to go. The love of the Lord is amazing. He is such a good God, a kind father and a just King. I have never been more excited for a year to start than I am for 2011. It is almost here folks. I picked this picture because I really like the color of both shoes and the cuffs. I feel like these people are standing a bit too far apart but I am wondering what the rest of the photo looks like. What do you think. I think they are both holding children and latte's and diaper bags and that is why they seem far away. I like that they are speaking the same fashion language. I am guessing those huge feet on the left are men's feet. I like that his cuff is bigger and his shoes more worn..and of course, the no socks. I like her polished Mary Janes (although I wouldn't wear mary janes), I like that her cuff is smaller and that it looks as though they are wearing matching jeans. I like the oneness of it all.

Zoe in Valentino

What does it take to get to where you want to be? Why is it that some people make it and some don't? What is the deciding factor? It is not enough just to have an idea or just to work hard or just to know the right people. Why is it that most people that I have talked to are not doing what they so desire to do in life? The picture of what I want my life to look like is drastically different from my reality. Am I really ready to walk the path that leads to my dream? It seems like such a long and difficult road. To the few who follow - Do you feel the same? Does your reality match up with your dream?

Smokers smell

Another month nearly gone. Time is flying. This year is nearly over. This year. This hardest year of my life. For that I am thankful. I am reflecting on where I am now and where I hope to go. I am not just thinking about the destination but the journey that is ahead. It is not an easy road. I am going to need help. I am going to need faith. I need to get ready. Get my heart ready. I gotta make the necessary steps now to ensure that I get where I want to go. It seems daunting when I think about all that I must do in order to get to the place where I feel that I am suppose to be. Seems overwhelming and unrealistic. God has to do it through me. I know I can't do it on my own.Sidenote. It is Halloween. I am at the mall. I wonder what foreigners are thinking as grown women are walking around in pirate costumes and kids are dressed like pumpkins and little butterflies. We are a weird country. I am disturbed because I can' tell if some of the people are in costume or not. I hope the little dresses are just prostitute costumes and that people really don't dress like that. I have a strange feeling, however, that they wear those dresses on days   other than October 31st.

Random ponderings #4

Just dreaming of life.

Walking out this day. Thinking of tomorrow. Doing the hard work now. Building my future one little brick at a time. The payoff will be great but it will not be now.

I am going to Kansas City for Thanksgiving!!!!!! I am beyond excited for this trip. My last trip home was the best ever and I expect even greater things this trip. I will get to see my friend L's new baby, hang with newly acquired friends from my last trip and hang with my dear friend A who is also going to be there for the holiday!!! (umm. so pumped about that A. Once again you made my day) I just love that city. I love the people and the simplicity of life there. It is refreshing.

You know what has been really grinding my gears lately? Uggs and bootie shorts paired together. I hate both of them for obvious reasons but when they come together I physically get sick. A bit of vomit comes up and I have to quickly swallow to get it back down. I am also seeing way to many puffy vests. I don't mind a thin puffy vest but the ones that stick out a good 6 inches in the front and back are just silly. Don't do it. I will write about you. I am also not enjoying the flip flops that are still lingering. I wasn't supportive in the summer and I will not be supportive in October. I also can't believe that grown women are wearing the sweat suits still. Even worse, here at Tyson's corner mall, they have the words tattooed and bedazzled on the ass of the sweat pant. Again, vomit comes up.

That was so negative. My eyes have been pleased with all the tights and skirts that are being worn. The Hugo Boss slim fit suits are so hot. I think every thin man should own one or two. I am loving the loafers without sock look and the short hem on the skinny trouser. There are lots of great looks going on this fall. Camel is a huge color for fall and I just love love love it. I know that feathers and animal print is big but I chose to stay away from it. I am diving into vintage pieces and can't wait for my Kansas City trip to find some treasures. The vintage shopping in KC is the BEST!!!!

Back to work. I am so excited to get off tonite, watch some Modern Family, eat ice cream and take up the entire bed

Inspiration

I stole this shot from the Sartorialist blog. Working in the men's department has me so inspired right now. I love the language that is spoken when menswear is translated onto the female frame. Sophisticated yet a bit tough with a soft edge.

To heel or not to heel. That is the question.

So last nite I watched "The Devil Wears Prada" for like the hundredth time. Each time I watch that movie I am awakened to new discoveries in my heart. Last nite it was all about heels.  Working at my new job I am surrounded by "clackers" (as the movie calls them). Most of the women that I work with rock the heels...well, at least for half of their shift then they change into flats because their feet hurt. And not just any flats, of course they are Gucci or Hermes or Louboutins but that is another blog post. So..What is the point? I feel like I should be wearing heels or "big girl shoes" to work because that is what you do at Tyson's Corner. So what did I pair with my BCBG skirt, Morrow jacket and Betsy Johnson tights today? My flat boots. I am wearing flats to work. I love heels. They are sexy and sophisticated and make me 5'7 but I work on my feet for 8 hours a day and I am not crazy. I don't get the point of wearing heels for 3 hours and to kill myself. A heel does change a woman. There is something about it. I love that this is my struggle right now. To heel or not to heel. There are other pressing issues in life like: finding a place to live by the end of the year, paying rent, getting a lawyer, building my business but whether or not to wear heels was the issue of the nite. Im glad I got that out. Let me know what you think about heels....

Get in where you fit in.

Have you ever put on a pair of heels that felt like little angels holding your feet in a cloud pillow? This weekend I was fortunate enough to wear 2 pairs of Stuart Weitzman's in a fashion show. They did not feel like little cloud pillows. They felt like pliers clamping down, ready to extract a decayed molar. I wanted an epidural. They were terrible. Luckily, I got paid a lot of money to wear them and the torture only lasted a few minutes. Here is my advice to you: "If the shoe doesn't fit, but you are getting paid, then wear it."-bre

single with lots of cats

"And the story begins to materialize, and another thing is happening, which is that you are learning what you aren't writing, and this is helping you to find out what you are writing."

There is something so freeing in this concept. To know what you AREN'T writing. To know what your story is not about. I have been watching some characters lately and it's been really interesting to see how my character relates and doesn't relate to those around me. I am daily understanding a bit more of the direction my story is going by seeing where it is not going.
 My character will not:
be at the bars every weekend, own a cat, wear a leopard print jacket, drive a mini van, wear sparkly things, get into politics, or cars or video games. My character will not love summer or wicker or Vera Bradley. Vodka tonics, feta cheese or mushrooms will not show up in her kitchen. She will not prefer her hair long and not pick bottled water over tap. Florida or India will not be on her list of places to visit. She will not be caught wearing khakis or those damn bubble dresses or shiny things. She will not get stressed out in traffic or in a long line or when the store is out of what she wants. She will not be moody or a blonde or anorexic. Bright eyeshadow will not be on her lids, nor will bright polish be on her nails.
As people and things get edited out of the story, the direction and plot become more clear and concise. There is less time wasted and attention can be focused on the story in which the character was made to tell. The beauty in all of this, as this wonderful book I am reading tells us, is that we don't know where our character is going. It is only then, as we being the writing process and delve into who our character is and isn't, that we are on our way to having a story. This was all too serious and confusing but it makes sense in my head.

Modern Vintage

It's kinda the look right now. When you have two great concepts, why would you not put them together?Look at the magic that can be made. You can't rush this look. Pieces must be collected slowly over time. Although the look may seem thrown together, the designer and assistants are the only ones who know the ridiculous amount of time and effort this "look" actually took. Careful planning and timely execution is key. The space must be edited over and over again. Feedback is good, as long as it is from one who understands the whole Modern Vintage concept.  A "Shabby Chic"er might not jump on board. It is easy to just do a modern look or a vintage look. The combination of two concepts takes a lot more work. The payoff is worth it. As I am sitting on my porch, bumming internet and dreaming of a re-do of my place, I hear a yelp, which sounds as if a baby leopard has just been choked repeatedly by a WWE wrestler. Or. It could be a large, adult rat getting ran over by a scooter. It is a weird sound and I am not sure what to do about it.....I still hear a faint crying. Maybe a baby. So, what did I do about the disturbing noise? I searched for a better picture to describe this modern vintage concept, changed songs on my itunes and turned it up just one notch.

I apologize

I want to first apologize for my years of ignorance when it came to high heels. I have always liked them on others but never really wanted to embrace them for myself. I recently made myself wear heels for 2 weeks straight to see if my mind could possibly be changed....and...it has been. I think a monster has now been made out of me. I. want.heels.
I.WANT.HEELS.
I.WANT.HEELS!!!
So maybe that was a bit dramatic but mostly true.
What if we took everything we thought we "couldn't do" or "didn't like" and tried it for 2 weeks?
(I will NOT do this with olives or diet beverages or cargo pants or kites though...I really hate these things)
Next on the list:
soccer

June

Well, it is June. One of my 3 least favorite months. The next 2 are on the way. I will be wearing V-necks all summer. I hate shorts but I think I will have to do it. Ya know how people get seasonal depression in the winter? I get it in the summer. I lock myself inside and blast the air. I am praying that GOD will change my angry heart towards summer.
I should get on a sand volleyball team or something. Something fun. Then maybe I will like it.
Anyways.
Guess it is time for my monthly vows to the month.
Last month I did a pretty good job of fulfilling those vows.
so.
Vows to June:
Dearest June,
Within the next 30 days that I must endure with you I vow to:
-drink a lot of water

My Dream Man

You know how some folks have their "dream man" or their "dream home" or "dream job".

I have a dream watch:

There she is. The Hermes cape cod double strap. It has about a 1500$ price point. I am not one to be into labels and fancy things so I do not just like this because it is Hermes. I like this because its perfect. So....My birthday is in September and we are about half way till Christmas. Just saying. my dream man could get me my dream watch. now THAT'S an idea!

The Longings of my little heart...

I long to have a home.
A yard. A house that looks like something right out of an Anthropologie catalogue.
I long to have friends over all the time for dinner. I long to have a sweet kitchen and I long to cook fresh organic food everyday.
A garden.
A clothes line.
I long to be in love. I long to be loved, desired, cherished, adored, thought of.
I long to be around creative and fabulous people who draw something out of me. Something that is deep and real and honest and organic and contagious.
I long to understand my heart and how the Lord feels about me.
I long to raise a responsible child who is confident and fears the Lord
I long to be done with school. I mean d.o.n.e.
I long to go on adventures. Travel. Asia. Backpack. Europe. Hike. Skydive. Surprises. Shows. Road trips.
I long to never be offended by people.
To forgive.
Joke less.
Smile more.
I long to get 9 hours of sleep each nite.
I long to have a dog. A bike and a 27' Mac.
I long for my heart to be completely free.
Completely whole and completely God's to give away.
I long for Chipotle and a frosty Coke and ice cream.
I long for order and peace and a clean home. A place for everything and for someone to have my back on this HUGE issue and understand what this does for my soul.
I long for my life to be a piece of artwork. Something that people will want to come and observe and study and ask questions and tear up and say, "WOW. That is beautiful. What an AMAZING artist."

p.s I cried when I saw my first Rothko. unbelievable.

What do I look like?

I just love this look. I wonder what she does for a living. I bet she works in marketing or p.r. I bet she smokes Marlboro ultra lights, but only when she drinks...and she drinks red wine...and not the cheap stuff.  She is just dating and doesn't want kids because then she couldn't just go to Paris (p.s this pic is from The Sartorialist blog if you haven't checked it out. Its WONDERFUL). I bet she did her undergrad at UCLA. She has a younger sister. She watches Lost. She played tennis in college. She makes way too much money for what she really does and has really nice sheets on her bed. She is a vegetarian. She has never built anything or been to the midwest..wait..she went to Chicago to a baseball game with her x boyfriend. She doesn't believe in marriage because she was once engaged and got her heart broken. I would love to meet her. I wonder what people think about me without knowing a thing. I wonder what I "look" like.
P.S. I bought those shoes a few weeks ago!
